I focus on what I can do, not what I can't. I build my day around what works for me, even if it's not a typical schedule or what works for most people. My disability is part of what makes me me. I get mad about it sometimes, and I can play the "If I were built differently..." game to my own detriment, but I've done a bit of therapy to help me recognize when I'm thinking myself into my own misery and it's much easier now, as an adult, to snap out of that. I'm remarkably good at a lot of things most able-bodied people tend to suck at. Every person gets their strengths and their struggles. Everybody gets discouraged, OP. Maybe those of us with chronic illnesses or disabilities feel that more deeply, but I don't know anyone who gets away with never feeling it at all. If you're newly-diagnosed, the initial "why me?" period is kinda rough. Honestly? Some tough love I got (early) during that phase was really helpful at shaking me out of my self-inflicted suffering: Why not? Why not me? What promises were made that I would never experience difficulty or hardship? None. SO... That may seem overly harsh to you, depending on where you are in your process. Just know that it'll change, like all grief, and you'll adapt as you go. Some days will be better than others. Finding community with others going through similar struggles might be useful; there are a lot of peer-support groups for pretty much any disability or illness you can think of. Surround yourself with people who "get it" and minimize the time you need to spend engaging people who don't.
