Can anyone recommend a softball club team for DD13? She is a solid hitter and fielder for her age (shortstop and 3rd this fall) and wants to play on a team that is a little better than her current one, but she wouldn't make it into anything extremely competitive. My main question is logistics, given traffic etc. what are the options for a family that lives within DC?
This is why there are a thousand splintered off travel teams. Everyone wants their kid on the best possible team where their kid is good enough to be a starter. The OP is asking for a team that wins games but has an opening at a top position for a good rec league level player. Two great options for that, find the most expensive team and pay for her to play, or start your own team and build around her.
We're in Fairfax County and there are several Capitol Hill area kids in our organization and others in northern Virginia. I've been told by one of the DC moms that coming to Virginia is what all the parents end up doing when they want to play at a higher level than Little League. If you don't want to commit to USSSA C, then join a Virginia rec league that offers rec+.
I'd choose the local rec league that offers a travel team that is closest to you. Someone posted the NVGSA name, I can't tell from their site where they play exactly. Vienna's league is similar, but smaller, and offers a travel team option. But usually, as also reference above, this is why there are 100 different 13U "club" team options.
NVGSA plays in the Franconia area and then Annandale/Springfield/Burke. The DC-area players who are with our org chose Alexandria for rec but do have to come all the way outside the Beltway for rec+ and Firebirds (travel). I know of DC kids who play with Arlington and/or Sage as well. Spirit (Arlington's rec+/all-star option) is much stronger in spring/summer than it is in fall, and might be a good option for OP as well.
