Elementary parent who just heard all MCPC students take “honors English,” in 9th. How is that possible? As a former teacher, why on earth don’t they have a regular track for English and an actual honors class for kids who are advanced? Is there at least a standard curriculum for HS English across MCPS, eg do they all use the same curriculum or read the same novels? I get more and more dismayed the further we get into this school system.
Have to lol for a quick second on this serious matter. Good you are looking into this as an elementary parent. Many many parents have tried and continue to try (starting in Kindergarten) to get advanced content in all "core" classes in elementary school to no avail. Science once a week? No wonder our students struggle when they get into higher grades and many don't want to go into steam. We need communications majors but we as a country also need a lotta other knowledgeable persons.
