The walk is to promote messages of compassion, nonviolence, and community healing. They’re traveling entirely on foot, stopping in each state capitol as they travel, for meditation, prayers, and conversations with local residents.   They are relying on donations for food and supplies.   There is an escort vehicle that follows them, which I read is currently at full capacity so for now they are not accepting donations.  There is a dog traveling with them, Aloka.  Aloka was a stray in India, and he followed the monks as they traveled through Asia.  One of the monks bonded with Aloka and insisted on bringing him back to the US with him.  There was a lot of paperwork and a quarantine period, but they were able to make it happen.  Now Aloka is accompanying them on this trip.  He is well taken care of, and when he gets tired, he rests in the support vehicle that follows them. At one of their stops, a mobile groomer came and gave Aloka a bath.
