Hello! My 8th grader is being recruited by St. John’s and Good Counsel for baseball. We are also looking into Dematha. Anyone with experiences at these schools have thoughts for me? Pros/cons of the programs. Any other schools we should look at? Gonzaga? He is currently on a travel team and is a top player in the region. Speaking as a mom here- I want him to continue to enjoy the sport and I have heard mixed opinions on the local coaches. Again, looking for honest advice. Thank you.
All good schools with solid baseball programs. Obviously, SJC has been on a tear in recent years and has achieved national program status. If you go to any PG or PBR tournament on the east coast they have heard of SJC. But GC is always competitive and sends plenty of kids to play in college. Honestly, pick the school with the shortest commute. With the time commitment of these programs, giving your kid a quick commute home is an incredible gift. There is no scenario where you should be deciding between GC and GZ as Gonzaga plays/practices at Nats Youth Academy which would be soul crushing from a logistical standpoint if you are Montgomery County.
