Can't really blame them, but it was the school principal, working off of the limited information at the time.   The message was: you can drop the class before end of 1st quarter without consequence.  After 1st quarter, you will receive withdraw pass or withdraw fail, depending on what the students grade was when withdrawing.  Scared many people off
