While "Make America Great Again" actually becomes more appropriate the longer DT/MAGA are in power and take the US down the drain, when will MAGA supporters realize the irony of adhering this slogan the longer their party is in power? Seems like an untapped opportunity for non-MAGA - Dems/independents should re-brand and take over the slogan as a rallying cry.
The problem is that MAGA has done permanent damage to America’s “greatness”. We have forfeited our status as a defender of freedom and human rights, a trusted ally, an economic power that is a stabilizing and helpful force for good on the global stage, a beacon for researchers who want to be on the leading edge, etc. Dems shouldn’t claim they’ll accomplish the now impossible, “make America great again” task, which is doomed to failure, seeing as the paradigm has shifted and we are no longer the preeminent superpower in the world. Our ballooning debt had been careening towards catastrophe even before Trump’s presidency, sustained by the dollar’s status as a global currency, which is no longer a given. Our economy was in jeopardy even resting on the foundation of global goodwill, without it we could face a crash that would make us envy the Great Depression. As bleak as the economic forecast is, it pales in comparison to the threats to both our national security and to the continued existence of a free and democratic America. At most Democrats could claim “we’ll try to stop the slide and salvage as much as we can”, but that’s hardly inspiring.
