I googled this question but couldn't find a straight answer. If my child shows up to an AP test in the spring but decides they don't want to take it, do they still have to sit through the 3 hour test in silence, or can they just walk out and turn it in and then cancel the score later? Is it the same result as not showing up for the exam? I believe there is a cancellation fee of $40 that the college board charges the school. Reason I'm asking is that my kid is not sure whether they are going to be prepared for an exam they signed up for, but if we wait, the sign-up fee goes up substantially (and test will be provided on a space-available basis) so I would prefer to sign-up now to preserve the option. This is a senior, so I have no idea how they will feel after this crazy application period is over and they are no longer sleep deprived.
Some don't show up on test day. School has cancel fee. Encourage student to take test even if they don't plan to use for college credit or skip an intro level class (if they score well). It should get better after the crazy Fall into Winter college applying season
