Parent of former VV player. VV provides exceptional value, particularly compared to other clubs. All coaching and admin is done voluntarily - often by parents of current or former players, but coaches have experience (whether in local high schools, travel leagues, and as adult players). Agree with prior comment re: strong preference for returners. They can play favorites (not unlike other clubs), but this skews more towards their own kids/friends and current players who may or may not be skilled players. We generally found it to be a supportive atmosphere and great start. Our kid has since moved on to other clubs, wanting to play beyond regional, so I can't speak to training at higher age groups, but VV has been competitive at regional level with prior 16s and 17s teams. As for practices, look at schedule online. I believe last season, practices increased to 3x a week, and there were random ones added on weekends (sometimes coordinated by other parents wanting more court time). For 13s, there will be some "returners" who were younger age girls playing up on the 13s team last year (this might be only 2-3 players), so team will really consist of new to the club players.
Didn't they have 7th and 8th grade teams last year?
You might be thinking of their travel program. They form teams for club season, but once it ends, they often form a new team (usually last season's club team plus or minus some) for the fall travel season. Fall travel is a great way to develop and leads right up to tryouts for club. I think last fall, they did middle school travel (teams for 7th and 8th grade).
