I really have no experience with down county. I can tell you that I grew up in and still live in the East Village part of Montgomery Village and I love it. Lots of play areas and spaces, walking trails. It's plenty safe despite all the negative feelings about Montgomery Village. The elementary school, Goshen is a solid school and Gaithersburg HS has amazing teachers and programs. The only downside is the MS option which is Forest Oak which isn't the greatest MS option in the area.
Nope. Op these places are not for you if your current list is Chevy Chase, Bethesda and Kensington. Do not consider Gaithersburg HS. It has fallen far but was never really a gem to be honest. Goshen looks like a 5/10 on great schools - also not for you. I'd highly recommend Chevy Chase elementary but I do think it has had a crowding problem recently.
