Missed assignments due to EXCUSED absences can still be turned in this week. So if a student was confirmed to be sick and missed class on Thursday and Friday of last week, they could turn those assignments in this week, theoretically with a deadline date of Tuesday night. What we did in my class to avoid the difficulty with students being able to make corrections or reassess on poorly done work was we didn't make any assignments reassessable over the last 2 weeks. You had one chance to submit and could not make corrections on them.
This seemed like the logical thing to me.
I think this will be easier to do next quarter. This one had many four day weeks, plus all of the usual beginning of school year demands like multiple town halls and emergency drills. I had 21 actual days of instruction. If I had stopped a week ago, it would have been 16. Forcing 9 mastery grades out of 16 days of class is rough on 11 year olds and doesn’t feel logical.
