Mostly I'm just sad.  I've always tried to be very purposeful and conscientious in my teaching and in my treatment of students.  But I'm running out of workarounds, and you don't get anywhere with begging.  Or preaching. Or individuating. Or choosing an easier textbook. Or rewriting a course. Or innovating. Or shaking up the grading system. Or "making things relevant."  If it doesn't look like a direct ticket to the next internship, they probably won't even show up regularly - which makes it impossible to help them succeed.[/quote]
