It's a "percentile", not a "percent", so it's already been scored for difficulty. He scored higher than 88% of comparable test takers in the fall of 3rd grade. That's great!

I know it's not what you asked for, but I teach an upper level class (not 3rd grade), and 88th percentile is pretty typical for my on grade level classes. My honors/former AAP kids are almost universally 95%+. Below that is a red flag that I need to keep an eye on kids. That's not to say it wasn't just a crummy attempt and he's capable of more, but if 88% is accurate then he is likely properly placed if he's at a MC/UMC school vs a title 1 where he may have less of a mathematical peer group.[/quote]
