Under the advice of our dermatologist, used a sterilized needle and lanced each blister that had a “seed” and cleaned as we went along using hydrogen peroxide. Be careful not to let the used needle touch uninflected skin. By keeping on top of that each day, the blisters didn’t have a chance to spread. If you “wait it out,” they can continue to spread for some time, and are contagious to others.
At the age my kids got this, there was zero chance they were going to sit still while I went at them with a needle. They caught it from each other, but once the immune reaction kicks in, they can't get it again.
