This poster raises an interesting question that I don't believe I've seen answered on the crazy train threads. The crazy train thread is all focused on travel soccer. For example, in Arlington, their rec league was always your grade. It was never birth year. I don't believe birth year was a factor at all. You signed up in kindergarten and progressed. It will probably remain that way. For most rec leagues, you're just playing other teams in your town or league so isn't it 100 percent the purview of the County or organization running the rec league?
Yes I think our towns rec youth sports council will have the final say - but our town does have club teams for each age group (coached by volunteers still, but they do play in tournaments and I THINK they play in a grouping called EDP? Again my kids are small so not yet old enough for their U9 team tryouts). But whatever the grouping (EDP, ENCL, whatever) decides to do, I’m assuming our town will decide to do, or their club teams won’t be able to play anywhere… right?
Any club or travel team that's going to play under one of the official soccer umbrellas and play teams outside of their organization, it's going to be the strict date cut off as it has always been. If you are in a County big enough to just play teams within its own rec league, they can do whatever they feel like for rec teams.
