Adults need to understand that their publicly available data WILL be found by nosy people. And employers WILL be nosy, so they can find the best fit candidate. I'm not on social media, and I was told by my friend's husband that he would never hire someone without a social media presence. What a little jerk. I suppose I'm lucky to be able to live my life as I want, and not be forced to present a fake online persona just for someone's gratification and hiring needs!
Yes, yes, yes, we are all aware of that at this stage. People can find your social media. Got it. The point is there was really no reason to stalk this woman’s social media - she isn’t a candidate for any role that it really matters, and again anything substantive would have been found in a background check. But now since my co worker found her dammed baby registry, we know.
Doesn’t it matter for every role, how the person presents their public info? A background check is not going to find everything “substantive.” And why can people not know she’s pregnant? Like you can take that fact, set it aside and myob right? I don’t get why you’re so hung up on it. What problems does it cause?
No, I have found over the years that it really doesn’t matter all that much what people post. As example, I don’t need to know (and would prefer not to!) that our regulatory guy plays D and D on weekends or that he is into the renaissance festival scene. He has all the qualifications he needs, his background is clean, his job history was great, his references were good and that’s that. And no, info like PG status is very hard for people to set aside when hiring for certain roles. Of course we will all have to try to now, but now I have to worry about someone slipping up somewhere
