We live in Wood Acres but I would like my kids to attend Burning Tree for a couple of work-related reasons (aftercare etc). I can't find information on how a person applies to attend another school in the same district. Anyone know?
Check the MCPS website for information. My guess is that you will not be able to do what you want to do. Wood Acres doesn't have aftercare? I'm sure you can get a bunch of parents together to get an aftercare provider into the school.
Search this forum for COSA and you will see that it's entirely possible you will be able to change schools. It's also entirely possible that you won't. The "rules" for COSAs are non-existent and depend mostly on the overcrowding of schools and willingness of the principal to let you in. I say this as 1. an MCPS teacher, and 2. a parent with two kids attending school on a COSA. Choose the hardship option that requires an explanation and explain your reasons. If you are denied, appeal it, and see what happens. In one school where I taught, a COSA was approved to move the student to another school because if that student attended our school, it would have pushed the numbers to require an additional teacher (this was an administrator's take on it, based on their experience). At my current school the principal has said that she prefers to keep numbers even--have the same number of students transferred out as allowed in. As you can see, your reasons for wanting a COSA are probably the least important issue in the process. Good luck!
