Hello, yes the grades will all add up. It is not averaged by quarter, rather it is everything for the whole year. A few A- or B+ along the way won’t hurt, just make sure it doesn’t get too far or it would add up. Other than that, your daughter’s in the right place. There should be about 2-3 units this quarter for the classes, so she’s alright. Make sure she does her homework! It will be 10 percent of her final grade
Are there middle schools using rolling gradebook? Our MS is not. I thought only HS was doing that this year. OP, you should have a syllabus that will tell you how grades are figured. Summative grades should be 70%, with hw and formative grades making up the other 30%. Hw can be up to 10%. Our hw counts for 5%.
Yes, our middle school uses the rolling gradebook. Our homework counts for up to 10% of the final grade.
So yours is 70% tests and quizzes/summative, 20% formative and 10% homework? What is considered formative then? What classwork that is not test and quiz? Like a skills check maybe?
For us--70% of summative could be a major essay, project, or test. Quizzes, classwork, group participation grades, and homework are 30%. So within that 30% only 1/3 max can be homework--to be 10% overall. It's not even that high for our school. It's probably like 15% of the 30% making it closer to 5% of the overall grade.
