DS has made huge strides at a dyslexia specific private, and we're thinking about options for 9th. I'm afraid he's going to get lost at Blair and have trouble with keeping track of his assignments and getting accommodations. Am I off base? Does anyone have recent experiences with a similar kid at Blair? Do any of the DCC schools offer more structured support?
There is a lot of chaos in the school system, with a systemwide overhaul of high school regional groupings taking place beginning in 2027. Blair is a big campus, with portables, some of which will disappear after boundary changes. If Blair is your home school, you will be in Region 1. I believe that Whitman, also in that region, has programming that may be helpful for your student. Best wishes.
I did not think you can just choose to go to Whitman without getting into a magnet there
So, we are creating a system that is access for everyone to what they promise to be rigorous STEMS and IB, but not increasing regional access to programs for students with special needs. Thanks MCPS.
Its not just what's best for you kid it what's best for the largest contingent possible. You are welcome to go to Whitman, buy a house there. Part of this is your choices and your kids abilities which you grew and fostered. You don't get to bakes a messy cake, assume you are invited to all the parties, pick the one you want the most, show up and then demand they fix the cake to your standards. Besides if they are starting HS this year the new plans wont effect them so you are stuck with typical DCC options. Not all kids make it though HS
