We had a lot of kids, mainly ESLs, not get to homeroom or went to the wrong homeroom even though their was assigned seating in our auditorium. Took a while to get sorted out especially if they have two last names but don’t go by the first one. Had some kids show up who weren’t registered. Many, many high schoolers don’t handle maps well anymore. So getting to class could be frustrating. Basically a normal first day for freshman.
Yes my freshman was struggling with the map! :D
Bethesda-Chevy-Chase high school's map runs to 4-5 pages, not because it's a large building, but because the multiple additions, wings and basements are not laid out in a shape that fits on one map, and the different floors for each wing are not actually on the same level as in the main building. It's the opposite of intuitive, there are tons of stairs and mini flights of stairs to connect various levels, and it's not great for anyone who needs a wheelchair. The layout makes the first week of school quite stressful for 9th graders and new students, and iNteRestinG for parents during Back to School Night.
