I work in the bid dept. at a construction company and last year during my performance review I was given a $3 raise. Normally I receive a $1 raise annually. I was very grateful. As our company continues to grow we hired a new person for our team and based on her basic knowledge and I assumed she was an 'entry level' hired, with 'entry level' pay. Recently she disclosed how much she was getting paid and mentioned she received a $3 dollar raise on her performance review. (1yr. review) What???. I realized she's getting paid same as me for the past year. Back story, I've been with the company for 5 years and brought a lot of years of experience with me when I started. I was also in charge of training her and teaching her everything she knows. She's a sweet girl and I'm happy for her but I don't understand how we're getting pay the same. I have years of experience and a College degree. She does not, that's why assumed she was an 'entry level' hired. I am treated with Seniority by everyone, including my supervisors, and my responsibilities are much higher than hers, which include overseeing her work. I have my performance review coming up and I don't want to sound ungrateful for the $3 dollar raise I received last year but I feel I deserve to pay a lot more than the 'entry level' hire. To be honest, with the amount of responsibility I have in my job, I was very upset when I found out we are both getting paid the same... I have a list of accomplishments and responsibilities ready for my review day, however, how can let them know I want more?
