How come when I go to USAJOBS, there are numerous openings for attorneys, just in DC (never mind the rest of the country)? And many of them are “telework eligible.” So spare me all the doom and gloom about hiring freezes, RIFs, and RTO. It’s all overblown and exaggerated by the media — at least for white collar professionals. I have no doubt that many low level crap positions are being cut and are suffering. But don’t pretend that everyone’s affected equally. What a joke. Btw, that’s why I don’t join a union. The interests of white collar Feds are not aligned with the crap positions that unions tend to prioritize.
So you're going to ignore all the data about the economic slump in DC and suburbs because of mass federal layoffs? My neighbor was among the first to be fired in January. Half my friends have been RIF'd. All highly educated lawyers and scientists. They were ALL called back to work at various headquarters that didn't have enough desks and parking spots, and one of them, before being RIF'd, had to get up at 5am to race to get a parking spot, until her office organized buses from the nearest metro station to the office. One of my friends whose job is safe was given an actual maintenance closet to work in.
