I’d like to just say that if these Jews and other Jews that are horrified by the abomination of Israel’s policies and actions are “bad Jews”, the world needs a lot more of them and a lot less of the so-called “good Jews”. And Beinart is absolutely right: the most committed, outraged critics of Israel’s policies and actions WOULD have stood up for him 80 - 85 years ago and they will today, too. He knows it. And he also knows how Zionists are panicked and fearful of Americans actually talking to a Palestinian because they know that just talking to one melts away all of the lies we’ve been told about Palestinians, their nature, and how they view Americans.
Ok, I’ll bite. “Hey Mr. Hamas, why did you cross the border on 10/7 and kill/kidnap a bunch of civilian Jews.” Regular American here, not a Jew. What’s the answer since you seem to speak for them ?
DP so Israel did not kill over 50 Palestinians on average per month for the 8 months leading up to Oct7? Did Israel propose annexing the West Bank before Oct7? Did Israel allow the existence of a Palestinian state before Oct7? No Oct7 had under a 100 Hamas fighters crossing the border to take hostages. Israel responded by using artillery and tank fire killing many of the civilians Israelis killed on that day. Israel cares nothing about the Hostages or non right wing ultra conservative Jews/Israelis. Look at how Bibi treated the hostages who are largely from left of center areas. He killed them. Let’s be real about the blame for this. Israel could have had every hostage back in November. Bibi did not want to do the typical hostage for hostages exchange. Israelis action before and after Oct7 are the cause.
There's no reason to lie. It was about 6000 Palestinians that invaded Israel on October 7th, including roughly 4000 members of Hamas. The rest were looters or members of Islamic Jihad. I personally think that nearly two years later, Israel has been terrible in their response. Using hunger as a weapon is inexcusable. The death of children is a tragedy. And the ultra-orthodox colonists - who neither work or do time in the IDF - that have invaded the West Bank are absolute scum. Because of the ultra-orthodox, Israel has no moral high ground. But they absolutely had the right to destroy Hamas and their supporters in Gaza after 10/7. Every other country would have done the same. Hamas and their supporters made a terrible decision - and Palestinians will be paying for it for generations. The stupidity of massacring all those kids and farmers on October 7th is absolutely breathtaking.
