I'm fed up with my SIL who is so worried about her job stability now complaining about her kitchen renovation. Either money is an issue or it isn't. STFU
Unless you are a mega millionaire, money is always an issue. Having savings or equity loan for kitchen renovations doesn't mean you have unlimited funds.
If you are worried about your job, why embark on a renovation, unless money isn't actually a true concern?
Don't play dumb. Sometimes kitchens are in such terrible shape that you need to change stuff. This was our situation. We didn't have a lot of money, but the fixer-upper we bought (because we couldn't afford a new or renovated house) needed new bathrooms and a new kitchen. They were not usable as is. And in the middle of the reno, my husband lost his job!!! Maybe OP's SIL is renovating an already wonderful kitchen and is just an entitled princess. Maybe she's given to complaining at the drop of a hat. Maybe her concerns are entirely legitimate. Who knows.
