I think the implication is that Southern women are hot, sexy, and well dressed and Columbia women are scruffy and demanding.  Hence the protest referencing.

OP, if not a troll, may believe the social purpose of college is to be surrounded by hot girls.

I would remind OP that the university is a medieval institution that emerged from a need to educate clerics.

LOL/  I live in nyc and there are plenty of Columbia kids who are living their best lives. OP would be impressed by the glam if OP understood real glam. Not as much fast fashion, strip mall jewelry (trust that these Vandy girls got pandora necklaces 5 years ago and a Tiffany locket in 4th grade ..because they all wear the same thing at the same time for their entire lives), and boots from Amazon.
