It is challenging, because the application will personalize him and his background, so you don't want him to lose his voice, a voice that is consistent with his experience, but you want him to persuade the AO he should be admitted.  I would emphasize the retention of his personal voice in any selection.  I would specifically ask a perspective editor about how they would accomplish this.

As for what specific schools want, perhaps you have already done this, but I would do some online research to educate myself before selecting someone as well.  There are a lot of online college consultant videos about what specific schools want, and the videos usually include a presentation about how to write the essay (but note, the questions may have changed since the release of the video).
