Trump has it out for Hispanics, doesn't he, right from his very first comments announcing he was running for president ("When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best"...). I don't remember him saying anything about Asians or white people who overstay their visas or work here without authorization. And yet he has employed undocumented Hispanics at his properties for decades. It seems to be personal--beyond garden variety racism.
And yet, last week an Iranian woman ---who came here 30 years ago fleeing the Iranian regime, was a legal resident, complied with all INS check-in requirements, and was married to a US citizen, was snatched away. And then there's the Evangelical MAGA Danish greencard holder in Mississippi with the 4 kids and homeschooling wife who reported to INS to complete (so he thought) the naturalization process but was snatched away because he had missed one form. So no, I do not think this is just about Latinos, although it may have started that way for Trump. I also think that the rapid hiring in ICE is going to mean that a bunch of Proud Boy white supremacist rednecks are going to apply for jobs and use their unchecked power to grab anyone they think is a "furriner". Trump and JD Vance have a specific view that being American means being white, Christian, and born here to parents who were also US citizens.
