To transfer up to $35K to a Roth IRA, the 529 must be at least 15 years old and the money must have been in that account for 5+ years. So I'd leave it in each kid's account, let them use it for graduate school if needed and IMO I'd leave the rest for their kids, any future education they might want (many get an advanced degree 5-10 years down the road). As a last resort, If kids don't need it for education, then let them use $35K for a Roth IRA funding. But definately do not just pull it out, unless you are desperate. Too many fees. [/quote]
