Is lice just really bad in DC right now? Is it always like this? We moved here recently and our kid starts school in the fall, at an elementary with a good reputation. Just heard from several families there that live was a huge problem there last year, and seeing all these live threads on here. My kid (8) has never had lice and if there was an outbreak at either of her previous schools, I never heard about it. Is there always a lot of lice here? I'm now considering cutting my kid's hair short because really don't want to deal with it if I can. I never had lice as a kid through a couple outbreaks at my elementary and I want to keep the streak alive.
Go to the Health subforum on here and read all the threads about lice. It's crazy. I only ever knew one person in my life that ever had lice, a kid growing up, and only had it for one day until he shaved his head, then came back to school. They sent out notices to all the parents and had a PTA meeting the day it was discovered, but it was nipped in the bud so to speak with just that one case. Something is definitely wrong if so many people are getting it and acting like it's common or normal.
