They may discourage you from an REA or ED if they think you aren't competitive compared to others applying. Truthfully, though, I find they aren't as good as the private college counselors at seeing the big picture trends, either on what schools want (which schools want a humanitarian-focused EC vs a leadership EC highlighted in the EC essay, etc). - two kids at T20 (both admitted in RD)[/quote]
