The green infrastructure maintenance and water quality monitoring programs have been cut by 100%. As we know, DOEE is responsible for the environmental protection of our city.

WHY THIS MATTERS:
-Wastes millions in prior investments by abandoning maintenance of existing green infrastructure built by the city to protect our water quality.
-Risks reduced water quality, Clean Water Act violations, neighbor complaints, and shorter facility lifespans.
-Eliminates green jobs for District residents who rejoined the workforce through these maintenance programs.

I am shocked that green infrastructure maintenance and water quality monitoring  line items were reduced by 100% in the Mayor’s FY26 DC budget!  Protecting our environment should be a priority for the District because ALL of our residents are entitled to clean air and clean water.  We cannot turn our back on the underserved communities that have suffered the most from poor environmental quality. They have the most to gain from these programs.  Please fight to save the DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE)’s important programs, such as green infrastructure maintenance, water quality monitoring,  the sustainable energy program, and River Smart!
