If you _ever_ think you might want RMSC, start trying out now. Sign her up for tryout dates at 2 different locations (i.e. attend both tryouts) this July and see if you can get her in. There's never a better chance, as PP said, than there is in minis. You can always quit later, but getting in is harder with every passing year of a kid's age. Don't wait until she's a better swimmer, because by then she'll also be older and have even more people competing with her for fewer spots.
This is great advice, thank you. Any suggestions for RMSC locations. We would try maybe Olney and MLK? I read Rockville is hardest to get in.
You definitely want to try for sites where you can make the commute, especially because the number of practices your kid attends per week will only grow over time. Watch the RMSC site for tryout information and then register right away - those tryout slots do fill up. Olney vs MLK is a frequent pairing for folks doing tryouts, because of the geography. KSAC is still in rotation at other pools while their own pool is renovated/rebuilt. Folks from KSAC would be able to explain the situation and the timeline. Once the tryout info is posted each site will also have its annual "flyer" on the website that explains the various levels, tuition charges, and practice options. (There are minor variations sometimes, and Rockville kind of has its own system). Minis at our site are required to practice once per week in order to hold their space for the following year.
