Help! It seems no matter what I do, my bathroom is perpetually covered in a film of product and hair, dust and debris! I only use a light finishing spray, and sparingly at that. I vacuum probably never other day, use a Swiffer around the toilet and in the corners, and wash by hand on my knees every week, but it’s still covered in crud! The funny thing is, I never see this film, or hair, or dusty film at anyone else’s house—even my friend who is a slob! Her bathroom always looks cleaner than mine even when I can tell she hasn’t cleaned it and no, she doesn’t have cleaners. What am I doing wrong and why does my room seem to attract so much grime? Is it the finishing spray? What can I do?
Hair spray is basically glue. It attracts everything to it and mold and mildew love it as well. Clean it all with something aggressive, either ammonia based or acid based like Lime Away, or even rubbing alcohol (NOT the 91% stuff though).
Any tips for keeping it at bay? I’m so fed up I’m considering using my finishing spray outdoors for the summer! (I’m not even kidding!)
Good idea. And after a good cleaning, use paper towel with some rubbing alcohol for small, every few days, cleaning up use. Keep water splatter wiped up with hand towel. It's the hair spray gunk though, and possible powdery makeup overuse, that's causing the grime. Could be mildew also, but a good cleaning, and cutting back on bar soap use, will fix that right up. Bar soap is terrible for feeding mildew.
I think it’s the spray which then gets damp when the shower is on, and then collects dust particles. So frustrating!
Now imagine that spray in your lungs when you breathe it in.
