What are the instrument options? Is there a place to see the list?
Every school is going to be different depending on the expertise of the teacher who runs the program, so ask your school. But definitely don't expect the school to meet an experienced player halfway - as PP noted, they simply can't. "Advanced" means "in the second year of weekly school group classes." It doesn't mean "already capable of X." So keep with the private lessons, and as PP suggested, maybe start a second instrument at school instead so the playing field is level and DC gets a bit of enrichment and challenge alongside friends. If they've been on violin for 5 years already (for example), playing at school is only going to frustrate them. (Spouse is a professional classical musician.)
