This was the message sent out. What does violence against a building even mean?? Could they be more vague? Dear Jackson-Reed High School Parents and Families, At Jackson-Reed, we are committed to ensuring a safe school environment for our students. Communicating home about incidents that occur is critical to maintaining strong partnerships with families. Earlier this afternoon, school administration was made aware of a threat of violence against our building. We immediately activated emergency response protocols as the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) arrived to investigate the threat and conduct a security sweep of the campus’s perimeter. Out of an abundance of caution, school staff moved to control entering and exiting the building, but we were able to continue instruction and student movement. Please be assured that students and staff remained safe and accounted for during this time. When the all-clear was given, MPD was on hand to support our dismissal to ensure safe passage as students left the building or transitioned to afterschool programming. Additionally, DC Public Schools (DCPS) Police has placed Jackson-Reed on special attention, meaning there will be an increased law enforcement presence during tomorrow morning’s arrival. The safety of our students is paramount. If you have any questions, please call our school office at (202) 282-0120 or email me at sah.brown@k12.dc.gov. Sincerely, Sah Brown Principal, Jackson-Reed High School
