Currently we live in DC. We are both from North Carolina but over the years have gone up there just for visits… during the summer and fall.

First, are we crazy for moving to a place with worse winters? Second, we aren’t sure whether to focus on the left or the right side of the river. The left side seems like it has more going on (?) We enjoyed visiting l Woodstock, Saguerties, etc but the other side around Red Hook and Rhinebeck are very pretty and quiet in a good way.

Where would we best fit in? Mid 50s, mixed religion marriage (DH is Jewish and I am Unitarian), Democrat, we like hiking with our dogs, live music, are foodies, enjoy gardening, bookstores, coffee, kayaking, and I dabble in making homeopathic remedies using plants (just for our family).

We would like to be in a place where we will be able to meet people and make new friends perhaps in a similar stage of life.
