[/quote] True, granite is seen as more of a dated look but I don't think all granites are equal. Love marble but it's expensive, high maintenance and stains very very easily. Personally, I'd skip quartz and concrete. Given that soapstone was a popular countertop choice in the early 1900s, I see this as more of a classic. It does develop a patina over time so make sure you are ok with that. If you want to go with granite, I'd recommend choosing a honed granite and avoid the shiny, overly polished stuff.[/quote]
