We are thinking of moving to Cabin John and we have young children who would attend Bannockburn Elementary School. I've read past posts but am not getting a good sense of what Cabin John is like and if people really like Bannockburn. Is it very liberal? Diverse? Many minorities? Are people religious? Any thoughts/insights is very much appreciated!
Cabin John used to be a very rough area and those who lived there were called "River Rats". There were two notorious beer taverns where you could count on fights everyday and a shooting each month. All of that is gone except for Cabin John Gardens which was built as housing for workers at the David Taylor Model Basin during WWII. Everything else is now new homes with almost all of the River Rat homes torn down. The new people are ultra-liberal (see the voting returns in the election). Bannockburn Elementary is nearly all-white and not diverse at all. The Bannockburn neighborhood was first built as a refuge for Jewish people who could not buy in other neighborhoods because of restrictive covenants. There are still plenty of Jews but hardly any blacks or Hispanic.
