Most girls by 13-14 have already hit puberty. When you look at the time standards the biggest jump for the girls is from the 9-10 to 11-12 group but for boys it’s the 11-12 to 13-14 group. If you look at time standards for some of the bigger meets they are fairly close between the boys/girls at the 11-12 age group but by 13-14 the boys are expected to be significantly faster than the girls. For boys that hit puberty early it is fine but for a lot of boys they aren’t close to those times until they are closer to 14.[/quote]
