Dear Hearst Elementary School Community, As we look to close out another remarkable school year at DC Public Schools (DCPS) and turn our focus toward School Year 2025-2026, I am excited to announce that Ms. Andral Hills has been selected as the next principal of Hearst Elementary School! I want to thank Hearst's parents, families, and community members who participated in this process, giving their time and attention and providing compelling feedback in the selection of our new school leader. Ms. Hills began her career as a first-grade teacher in Rochester, New York, before moving to Atlanta, where she served as a special education teacher, middle school teacher, instructional coach, and assistant principal. After relocating to the DC area, Ms. Hills joined McKinley Middle School in 2021, where she supported the design of early academic intervention and the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). Following McKinley, Ms. Hills was the Rigorous Instruction Supports Equity (RISE) Resident Principal at Turner Elementary. In her most recent role as assistant principal for the inaugural 6th Grade Academy at Stuart-Hobson Middle School, Ms. Hills has led efforts in reducing chronic absenteeism, increasing in-seat attendance, boosting students' sense of belonging, and seeing academic improvements in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Math on annual assessments. Ms. Hills holds a Bachelor of Science from The State University of New York (SUNY) at Empire, a Master of Education from Nazareth College of Rochester, and an Education Specialist degree from Capella University. I am confident that the next phase of excellence at Hearst will lead to the continued development and success of our scholars under the leadership of Principal Hills. I look forward to supporting her and the entire Hearst Elementary School community in preparation for next school year. If you have any questions, email me at Andria.caruthers@k12.dc.gov. Sincerely, Andria Caruthers Instructional Superintendent, Cluster IV
