I’m 51 and trying to really focus on building strength (already through menopause). I walk my dog 3-5 miles a day and I thought about adding in a weight vest. Does that really make a difference in strength building (muscle and bone) or am I just going to be prone to pain in hips or knees?
No, it just adds wear and tear on your joints. The reason people do weight vests is either for: 1 - They are overweight and cannot run/jog, and want to burn more calories while walking. (Works for anyone of any weight, just again, harder on joints) 2 - They are doing bodyweight exercises like pullups, etc. No other legit reason to wear one. You have to lift heavy weights (heavy for you) to help your bones and muscles. Also drink plenty of milk or get decent calcium. Most pill forms of calcium are not absorbed well.
