I'm sorry - can you rephrase what you're asking? It's a little confusing in your OP. Are you asking if an unveiling always takes place after the burial - or when the unveiling is supposed to take place? Are you upset with your FIL for not doing an unveiling at the time of the burial - or questioning why he's not doing that?
If the unveiling can happen during the three weeks, the period leading up to Tisha B'Av (so July 13 to August 3rd this year). This is when he wants to schedule it. The burial was over a year ago.
I'm reform so maybe I am just not familiar with what you're talking about. But in my experience, unveilings happen any time from 30 days after the burial to one year after the burial, with most happening at the one year mark. I don't know anything about timing burials to tisha b'av (and honestly had never even heard of tisha b'av until now!). How religious is this family?
They are conservative. Not super religious but also religious enough to care about the unveiling and people going. The unveiling was delayed because of a tombstone issue and was supposed to be this spring. Now fil is saying this summer but to me it seems weird to do it during that time though I'd like to see what others think.
I'll let more religious people take over from here, then!
