I've got a college junior and a college freshman, and applying to UMD early action (by 11/1) has been *for years* basically required in order to be considered for acceptance. Every HS counselor should be telling their students this. When my kid applied in 2021, she knew there was pretty much no point in applying RD. This is not new.[/quote]

Everyone including my daughter knew to apply Early Action and they all did and tons of rejections. That strategy was useless for most in 2025. My daughter since she had higher GPA, higher SAT and more APs and clubs then her older sister who got in actually thought it was a saftey or slam dunk. Her HS a W school this year has a lot of kids going to OOS colleges as they scrambled last minute. My daughter's OOS college just today a friend at school said she is going. Her Dad was set on UMD and took him a few months to stomach paying OOS. And these kids were not wait listed, straight up rejected.

You can schools that last year had 1-2 kids at now have 7-9 kids at. A lot are kids who would have went to UMD. It really blindsided a lot of parents. My daughter has a friend with a 4.7 GPA going to Montgomery Community College as did not get into UMD and plans to transfer in. Thats a kick in the pants.           [/quote]
