Stealing is taking something, that isn't yours, without permission.  A girl wants to tryout for McLean, gets an offer and decides to take it. That is no way shape or form stealing.

Language is a beautiful thing, please don't look at it only through one lens and criticize others if you disapprove of their unique usage of it.  We all know what the PP means, it is a lighthearted take...today, just this morning in-fact, I stole myself a few mints from the welcome desk at the public library.  Also, my daughter is really good at stealing the ball from your daughter.
