I would love to understand what [i]any[/i] of the SOLs impact. I think I've heard that getting a Pass Advanced on the 7th grade Math SOL in 6th grade is a requirement for Honors Algebra I, right? But outside of that, assuming your kid is already in Level IV, do any other SOLs have implications for your child?

I ask because we get so much from the school/teacher about upcoming SOLs, including practice tests etc. And if this is just a way to ensure that they are on track, I don't get why I would test prep them for it. Feels more like I should be sure they show up rested and fed and let the chips fall where they may.

For the student, outside of the 7th grade Math SOL in 6th grade AAP or Advanced Math, it doesn't matter for the student.

It matters more generally for the school and for school test scores which will affect the neighborhood, the community, and will somewhat affect housing prices.  Parents who are concerned about education will look for schools with better test scores, and vice versa.  [/quote]
