University education is a big and important export for the US.  Many (most?) of the international students don't go to selective schools.  And whatever college/univ they are at, they contribute to the leaning environment.  Maybe you've never met an international person, but they bring different knowledge and perspective to all sorts of subject.  If you don't understand that, I suspect you don't know what being "educated" actually entails.[/quote]

Exporting education is stupid though.  Don't train your competition.  Why do they want us to compete with them if it isn't a zero sum game.  Oh we're supposed to bring them here then compete with them.

No one wants to take an engineering course with a bunch of foreigners, they do not contribute to the educational experience.  If I wanted to take a course where ethnicity was import I would take a foreign language or something.  Why do they make engineers and computer scientists train with foreigners.  What about tech has anything to do with tech.  All the Indian and Chinese grad students cliqued with each other and wouldn't say two words to anyone else.  [/quote]
