My wife leaves stacks of plates by her computer in the bedroom all the time, but we don't have bug problems in the bedroom at all.
This -- my bedroom is also my office and I eat snacks in there (at my desk, not in bed) during the day and often have tea or water in there and am not super diligent about clearing my dishes immediately. But we don't have bugs in our bedroom. Actually, the one room where we have sometimes had a pest problem is an enclosed porch off the kitchen, and I know it has to do with leaving the door open in that room. There's a screen which keeps out flies, mosquitos, and bees, but we have had an ant issue in there before. There are a lot of plants in that room as well and I do think they attract the ants. But we've had it treated a few times and we set out traps and can generally get the problem to go away in a week or two. The ants have never gotten into the rest of the house even though the kitchen is adjacent to the porch room.
