I think WaPo switched a while back to require even “guest” readers to create a free account and login to read gifted articles. It’s still free, but you have to provide an email address, which they then spam with ad emails to get you to subscribe.
Yes I think that's true. I post gift articles. And a few have complained. Register or buy your own subscription. The Wapo's been pretty good since February. I feel that the journos are energized. As they should be. The news is insane. Please reconsider your subscription drop if you did. We need what's left of traditional media to keep working. I don't want to get my news from Elon Musk and Logan Paul.
I'm a PP who also posts WaPo gift articles. I am in two minds about renewing my subscription, honestly. Not because of Bezos. But because the writing and general depth of reasoning is so poor compared to the NYT, to which I also subscribe - this is particularly evident in education and science, their writers seem to be lacking basic knowledge in that area. The two reasons for me to keep WaPo, for me, would be some political exclusives they have, being in DC and in political circles, and weather from the fun team at Capital Weather Gang.
PP. WaPo is my former hometown team. If people can accept imperfection from an MLB team for 100 years, I feel it's worth dropping some change on the WaPo. I want to fund a paper with more reporters in DC. There's more to keep an eye on in DC. I have considered NYT but the price is disproportionate to my available time for consuming news. Maybe someday.
