Capitalism and democracy are two different, and if we're being really honest, somewhat opposed concepts. The big lie has actually been convincing Americans that capitalism and democracy are one and the same, and they most certainly are not. You can very much have one without the other.

For example, in the US, we have a hell of a lot of capitalism, and not so much democracy anymore. A lot of other countries have a lot less capitalism and way more democracy. Their citizens tend to be happier and healthier, the children don't get gunned down at school in the name of freedom, and their government protects them from the worst impulses of profit seeking corporations.
