But it’s meaningless if those surplus applications are from under-qualified students who never had a chance. The question is, what are the stats for the accepted students? GPA/rigor/test scores? And how many of them were accepted by other highly in demand / rejective schools? For example, what are the odds that a high-stays kid who gets into Vanderbilt or Davidson also gets into Duke? I know that their admit rate is similarly low. But is the applicant pool truly the same? [/quote]
